“Look back, Thank God. Look Forward, Trust God. Look Around, Serve God. Look within, Find God’

Dear students and teachers,

Happy New Year! I would like to express my best wishes to all of you at the very beginning of the New Year.

Today we stand at the threshold of the unknown. Before us lies a new year and we are going forward to take possession of it. Who knows what we will find in the year 2011? What new experiences or changes will come our way in 2011? What new needs will arise?  In spite of the uncertainty before us, we have a cheerful and comforting message from our heavenly father. As the bible says, ‘The Lord your God cares for it; the eyes of the Lord are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end‘.  The Lord is our source of supply. In him are fountains and streams that will never be cut off or run dry.

Look back the last year 2010, let’s thank God. Although we were full of weaknesses and always made mistakes and there were times that we found helpless or difficult, God’s blessings were always there. He protected us and kept us. He sent us a lot of caring angels around us to help us discover ourselves.

Look forward the year 2011, let’s also trust God. The land we are to possess is a land of valleys and hills. It will not be all flat or downhill or easy roads. If life were always smooth and flat, the boring sameness would weigh us down. WE need the valleys and also, the hills. The hills collect the rain for the fruitful valleys. And so it is with us! It is the difficulty encountered on the hills that brings us the showers of blessings.   We cannot see what trials, loss, and sorrow we are going to face and accomplish. We need only to trust. The Father would come near to take our hand and lead us on our way today. It will be a good and blessed New Year.

There are many people around us. They are our classmates, schoolmates, friends, family, teachers, relatives, the people in the community and all over the world. Let’s learn to fulfill our different duties, i.e. as a student, a son or daughter, a HK citizen, a Chinese and a global citizen wholeheartedly and also ‘look around’ to take every opportunity to serve others. This will make us joyful happy because serving others is like serving the Lord. This will also make our heavenly Father happy because serving others will let us grow.

The last but not least important is to ‘Look within’, so that we can find God. We are very busy in our everyday life. But do remember, it is very important to reserve a quiet time and a quiet heart to pray and listen to God’s words every day. Or else, we may not know where we are driving at and what the meaning of our work is. Look within. Find God. Let’s reflect upon what we have done, what we have said and what we have thought. Do our thoughts, words and actions fit in God’s image? Of course, we are not perfect. We are weak and will always make mistakes. But God is love. He listens to our prayers. He accepts us and forgives us. He gives us strength. Reflect upon our anxiety and worries. Think about our dream and talk to our God. He has a plan on each of us.

Let me make an ending now. I have shared with you my four wishes in the New Year. ‘Look Back, Thank God. Look Forward, Trust God.

Look Around, Serve God. Look Within, Find God’.

Hope you join me and walk TOGETHER with me in the year 2011.

God bless.
