Our school choir performed in the Green and White Concert 2021 organised by St. Joseph’s College Music Society as guest artists to close the concert with a grand finale on 9th July 2021 at the Tsuen Wan Town Hall Auditorium.
The waves of infection of COVID-19 brought a halt to most extra-curricular activities at schools. With the ease of social distancing measures and the update of relevant guidelines, the music panel decided to restart musical activities to provide students with more music-making opportunities. Our choir, comprised of 39 singers, performed together with other guest schools, including singers and instrumentalists from Bishop Hall Jubilee School, Heep Yunn School, St. Francis’ Canossian College, St. Louis School and St. Paul’s Secondary School.
After the final examination, our students worked extra hard to familiarise themselves with John Leavitt’s Missa Festiva, a 15-minute choral-orchestral work set to the text of mass ordinary. They learned the Latin text, their parts and the various musical styles in the piece, such as the chant and organum style in ‘Credo’.
Seeing the students from St. Joseph’s College putting the concert smoothly on stage, our students were impressed by their organisational abilities. The students involved also experienced singing with an orchestra and exchanged contacts with students from other schools.
Thanks must be extended to St. Joseph’s College Music Society, who entrusted the musical abilities of our students; our music teachers, Ms SC Chan and Mr CJ Ngai, who prepared the students for the concert; our alumni who sang with us and handled the administration of the event; and our principals Ms CY Cheung and Mrs CH Wong, who were in attendance of the concert to support our choir.
